Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Dignitaries from the small town of New Haven, Connecticut and its resident Ivy League university, Yale, recently joined those from Pfizer (NYSE: PFZ) (New York, New York) for a "topping-off" ceremony of their newest clinical research unit (CRU). Whiting Turner (Baltimore, Maryland) began construction (PEC 36000363) of the $35 million, 60,000 square-foot building in November of 2003.
Studies carried out at the CRU play an invaluable role in new drug development. Pfizer drugs that are undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials will be administered to healthy volunteers and the CRU medical staff will closely monitor these individuals, evaluating how these medicines work within the body. The Yale University School of Medicine (New Haven, Connecticut) will assist in conducting drug tests through the use of PET (positron emission tomography) and other scanning technology.
Designed by The SLAM Collaborative (Glastonbury, Connecticut) (Company 1052239), the project is being built on a on a 2.5 acre site in New Haven that the state "sold" to Pfizer for $1.00. Located in an area that has been officially identified by the state for bioscience investment, the CRU is expected to be complete in 2005 and will eventually employ as many as 50 people.
