Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Apex Clean Energy (Charlottesville, Virginia) is responsible for a large portfolio of clean energy projects in the U.S. Founded in 2009, the company is coming to the fore in the energy transition era. Industrial Info is tracking $19 billion in active Apex projects in the U.S. While not all of these will be constructed as planned, Apex's active projects across 19 states shows the company is a serious player in the renewable energy market throughout the U.S.

Apex's projects are a mix of wind and solar power, with the largest value and number of projects going toward wind, with more than $11.8 billion worth. Texas leads in both the number and value of projects in all U.S. states, although by market region, the Great Lakes region, largely thanks to projects in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois, emerges as the winner.
Among Apex's wind projects that could kick off in Texas is the Siete Windfarm in Oilton, Texas, in the south of the state, about 40 miles east of Laredo. As proposed, the project would use 150 turbines for a nameplate generating capacity of 375 megawatts (MW). The project is planned to kick off early next year, putting it on a path to completion by the end of 2024. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can click here for the detailed report.
Also in Texas, Apex is planning a solar power facility with a battery energy storage system (BESS). The Welder solar farm, near Sinton, about 20 miles north of Corpus Christi, would use more than 906,000 photovoltaic solar panels on a single-axis tracking system to generate 300 MW, and current plans are to construct a 100-MW BESS to help provide power to the region when the sun isn't shining. The project could kick off early next year and be completed yearend. Subscribers can click here for the project report.
Industrial Info is tracking more than 15 Apex projects with a combined value of $2.74 billion that have a planned 2022 kickoff date. These projects include the 80-MW Swiftwater solar farm near Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, which will use approximately 240,000 solar modules. Construction is planned to kick off this summer, with completion set for early 2023. Subscribers can click here for the project report.
Other Apex projects with a planned 2022 start date include the Heritage Wind Windfarm near Albion, New York, which will use 33 5.6-MW wind turbines to generate about 185 MW. Construction is set to kick off in the fourth quarter, taking about a year to complete. Subscribers can click here for the report.
Among Apex's largest projects is the Roaming Bison Windfarm near Crawfordsville, Indiana, about 50 miles northwest of Indianapolis. The facility will use 120 2.5-MW turbines to generate 300 MW. Showing its niche in the energy transition era, Apex already has signed a power purchase agreement for all of the power produced by the windfarm with Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) (Merrillville, Indiana), which is aiming to transition away from fossil fuels toward renewable energy. Throughout the country, Apex is providing options for utilities as they aim to provide cleaner, greener power to their customers.
