Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Esso Australia Proprietary Limited (Melbourne, Australia), an Australian subsidiary of Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas), has awarded Wood Group PSN (Melbourne) the contract to supply brownfield engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) service support to the Gippsland Basin joint venture's offshore facilities, as well as the onshore facilities at the Long Island Point and Longford gas plants.
Work is about to commence on the installation of six new mercury removal units (MRU) at the Longford natural gas processing plant and modifications to the Long Island Point natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionation plant, in preparation for the changing gas makeup of the natural gas and condensates recovered from the Kipper Field. These projects are to mitigate mercury levels in order to meet the target limits after extraction, where mercury levels are set to reach 200 to 250 parts per billion. The work is scheduled to continue until early 2015, with the entire project to be completed by 2016, when natural gas production from the Kipper Field begins.
The mercury that is captured and removed from the gas and condensate produced at the Longford plant will be sent to a licensed mercury specialist, where it will be treated and recycled for use.
Production from the recently completed Kipper-Tuna-Turrum project will help maintain the current gas production levels within the Bass Strait, so the Longford and Long Island Point projects can be brought online.
