World-Scale PVC Project Under Construction in Anhui Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Anhui Huaibei Coal Industry Group’s 1 million-ton-per-annum polyvinyl chloride (PVC) project started its construction earlier this year. The $1.1 billion project takes up an area of 3.93 million square meters and is scheduled to be complete in 2010.

The project, located in Chuzhou City, is the largest industrial project in Anhui Province. The regions north and east of Anhui have coal reserves and have traditionally been Anhui’s heavy industry zone. It is expected that through this project the economy in the Anhui area will be boosted.

Every year, the PVC project is expected to produce 1 million tons of PVC, 760,000 tons of ionic membrane sodium hydroxide, 1.4 million tons of calcium carbide and 2.6 million tons of acetylene sludge cement. The project will also include a thermal power station with the capacity of 540,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) to supply power to itself.

The first phase of the project will realize annual production of 600,000 tons of PVC, 840,000 tons of calcium carbide, 460,000 tons of sodium hydroxide and 1.5 million tons of acetylene sludge cement. The station will have the capacity of 270,000 kWh for the first phase of the project.

Huaibei Coal Industry Group is one of China’s 13 large scale coal production bases. It ranks the ninth among all Chinese coal industry enterprises. It is also the only coal mine in eastern China that produces a complete array of coal types. The 1 million-ton PVC project is a critical part of Huaibei Coal Industry Group’s coal-coke-chemical-power-construction material integrated development strategy.
