Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Renewable Energy Systems Americas Incorporated (RES) (Broomfield, Colorado) completed the construction of two power windfarms earlier this month: the Pleasant Valley Windfarm in Minnesota and the Borders Windfarm in North Dakota.
RES developed both projects and also served as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
The windfarms were sold to Xcel Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) subsidiary, Northern State Power Company (Minneapolis). Northern State Power will own and operate both facilities.
The Pleasant Valley windfarm is located in Hayfield, Minnesota. The $400 million project consist of 100 Vestas v100-2.0 wind turbines for a total generating capacity of 200 MW. Eighty-eight of the turbines are positioned in Mower County, while the remaining 12 turbines are in Dodge County. There is a possibility for Pleasant Valley to obtain an additional 75 MW in the next few years.
The $300 million Borders windfarm is located in Rolette County, North Dakota. This project consists of 75 Vestas V100-2.00 wind turbines for a total generating capacity of 151.8 MW.
