Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $30 billion in industrial projects involving engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm Zachry Group (San Antonio, Texas). The projects cover a range of industrial sectors, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), chemical processing and power.

Among the largest projects involving Zachry are two LNG production projects in Texas. Construction on Train 1 of Freeport LNG Development LP's (Houston, Texas) LNG production and export plant on Quintana Island kicked off in late 2014 and is expected to be completed later this year. The train will have a production capacity of 5 million tons per year. Construction on trains 2 and 3, also with production capacities of 5 million tons per year, kicked off in 2015, and the trains are expected to be completed in 2020. A consortium of contractors including Zachry, McDermott International (NYSE:MDR) (Houston) and Chiyoda Corporation (Yokohama, Japan) is providing EPC on the project. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Train 1, Train 2 and Train 3.

The same EPC consortium also will kick off construction on trains 1 and 2 of Golden Pass Products LLC's (Houston) LNG production and export facility in Sabine Pass, Texas, this year. The trains each will have a production capacity of 5.2 million tons per year. Construction on a third train could begin in a few years. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Train 1, Train 2 and Train 3.

In Channelview, Texas, Zachry is providing EPC on LyondellBasell Industries NV's (NYSE:LYB) (Houston) propylene oxide (PO)/tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) unit addition. Construction kicked off in 2017 and is expected to be completed in early 2021. The facility will produce 1 billion pounds per year of PO and 2.2 billion pounds per year of TBA. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report and the February 2019 edition of the NavigatIIR online newsletter.

Zachry also has a hand in more that $1.5 billion in power projects. Among these is Entergy Corporation's demolition/repower project at the Washington Parish Energy Center in Louisiana. The project involves dismantlement and demolition of combined-cycle units with a capacity of 577 megawatts (MW) and replacing them with two General Electric (NYSE:GE) simple-cycle peaking turbines with a capacity of 360 MW. The dismantlement began late last year, and the installation of the new turbines is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021. The projects have an estimated total investment value of $308 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's projects reports on the dismantlement/demolition and the new-unit installation.

While grassroot coal-fired power construction has ground to a halt in the U.S., maintenance is still required for operational coal-fired plants, and Zachry is acting as contractor for maintenance projects at Duke Energy Corporation's (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) Gibson Generating Station in Owensville, Indiana. Coming up later this year is a maintenance program for units 2, 3 and 5, which have a combined generating capacity of more than 2,000 MW. The program is expected to kick off next quarter, and maintenance on each unit will take approximately 17 days. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
