Edegel SA Invests $386 Million in New 196-Megawatt Hydropower Plant in Peru
Peru's Empresa de Generación Eléctrica de Lima SA (Edegel SA) (Lima, Peru) plans to construct a 196-megawatt (MW) hydropower plant in Curibamba, Peru.

The Curibamba hydroelectric power plant will be equipped with two 98-MW Francis turbines to provide renewable energy to the grid.
Edegel SA is performing the preliminary design through the first quarter of next year and expects to release requests for quotations and bid documents for equipment, consumables and subcontractors by the second quarter of 2011. Plant officials told Industrial Info that construction will take three to four years. Structural erection will begin at the end of 2011.
Edegel SA is the largest private electricity generation company in Peru. It currently has a total output of 1,283.8 MW of electricity, 739.4 MW of which is produced at hydropower plants, while 544.4 MW is produced at thermal power stations.
