Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Argentina's 466-megawatt (MW) Bicentenario Combined-Cycle Power Plant was restarted following a pipeline explosion that affected its natural gas supply. However, the 216-MW Gobernador Arturo Zanichelli Power Plant remained down.

The August 1 explosion destroyed a gas pressure reduction station between the two Provincial Power Company Cordoba (EPEC) plants, located in Pilar, about 44 kilometers (km) from Cordoba City. According to initial news media reports, the explosion killed one person and injured several others.

For additional information, see August 1, 2014, article - Bicentenario Combined-Cycle Power Plant Offline after Gas Pipeline Explodes in Argentina.

The explosion did not damage the power plants, but cut off their natural gas supply. The Bicentnario plant has two 168-MW Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) SGT5-200E V94.2 natural gas-fired combustion turbines in combined cycle, with one 130-MW Franco Tosi SpA (Legnano, Italy) steam turbine.

The Gobernador Arturo Zanichelli Power Plant remained offline as a result of the gas supply disruption. It has four Ansaldo Energia SpA (STS:IM) (Genoa, Italy) steam turbines fueled by natural gas. Tests show the turbines can be restarted once the gas supply returns.

The amount of damage to the Transportadora de Gas del Norte S.A. (TGN) (Buenos Aires, Argentina) pipeline was still being assessed.
