Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS-A) (The Hague, Netherlands) will shutter its 211,000-barrel-per-day Convent, Louisiana, refinery. Shell announced plans to sell the refinery in July but failed to find a buyer. Shell said it would commence the shutdown process in mid-November.
In a statement, Shell said, "The decision is part of the company's global strategy to invest in a core set of uniquely integrated manufacturing sites that are also strategically positioned for the transition to a low-carbon future." According to Reuters, in a conference call this week, Shell said it expects to sell all but six refineries and chemical plants globally and is considering closing facilities that it cannot sell.
