Airgas Plans to Improve Tennessee’s Industrial Gases Cylinder Filling Operations with New Plant

Airgas, Incorporated (NYSE:ARG) (Radnor, Pennsylvania) is finalizing plans for the construction of a grassroot industrial gas Cylinder Filling Plant (CFP) in Nashville, Tennessee. The new plant will use purchased industrial gases, including oxygen, argon, and nitrogen, to fill cylinders and then distribute them to the regional industrial, medical and welding industries.

James F. Scalf and Associates of Nashville, Tennessee has been awarded the design and engineering contract for this new plant that will cost an estimated $3 million to construct and include the installation of at least five bulk tanks with a capacity of up to 11,000 gallons. The bids for this new plant will be released from Airgas’ Mid-America Bowling Green, Kentucky office this fall and construction is anticipated to begin by the end of this year. Once complete in June 2006, this new plant will replace an older gas filling plant, also located in Nashville, which has been in operation since 1984.

Airgas is also planning to invest an estimated $3 million for capital improvements to their CFP site located in Angleton, Texas. The scope for this project includes the addition of new air compressors, manifold system and packaging equipment to increase cylinder filling capacity. Airgas is one of the largest distributors of industrial, medical and specialty gases in the United States.
