Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--U.S. renewable energy developer Apex Clean Energy (Charlottesville, Virginia) reported yesterday that it has secured financing for the Prosperity wind power project, which is under construction in Illinois and has power purchase agreements with multiple companies.
The Prosperity Wind project is underway in Piatt County, Illinois, about 65 miles northeast of state capital Springfield. Engineering, procurement and construction contractor IEA White Construction (Clinton, Indiana) broke ground at the site earlier this year. The windfarm will include 50 Vestas turbines, each rated at 6.2 megawatts (MW), for total generation of more than 300 MW when completed in early 2025. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.
The windfarm will be Apex's fifth wind facility in Illinois and will supply power to customers including agriculture and food company Cargill (Wayzata, Minnesota), the Illinois division of Ameren Corporation (NYSE:AEE) (St. Louis, Missouri), Commonwealth Edison Company (Chicago, Illinois) and MidAmerican Energy Company (Des Moines, Iowa).
Apex has a few other wind projects planned for Illinois, although none of these are presently under construction. Among these is the planned 200-MW Lotus Windfarm in Macoupin County, which would use approximately 80 turbines rated at 2.5 MW each to achieve 200 MW of aggregate generation. Construction is expected to begin in the first half of next year with IEA White again taking a lead. The project is expected to take about a year to complete. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
In the U.S. Great Lakes market region alone, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, Apex has $5.5 billion worth of projects that are in development or presently under construction. The projects encompass wind, solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Among the highest in capacity is a wind installation planned for Montcalm County, Michigan, that will use approximately 75 turbines rated at 5 MW each to provide 375 MW of power. The project is expected to kick off in the second half of next year, putting it on track for completion in late 2026. Subscribers can click here to learn more.
Apex also is planning a few solar facilities in the Great Lakes region, but only a few of these are expected to break ground within the coming year. Of these, two are in Indiana. The 200-MW Brouilletts Creek photovoltaic plant is planned for Vermillion County, which borders Illinois to the state's west, while the 194-MW Valpo solar farm is planned for Porter County, which meets Lake Michigan in the north of the state. The Brouilletts Creek project is expected to be completed first, possibly in the summer of 2026, followed by the Valpo facility toward the end of that year.
