Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held Australian-American Energy Company LLC (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Australian Energy Company LLC (Australia), and the Crow Tribe (Crow Agency, Montana) have finalized agreements to construct the "Many Stars" coal-to-liquids plant on reservation land in Montana. The land is said to have more than 10 billion tons of coal reserves, and the tribe believes that the plant will provide economic and social benefits, create jobs and help the tribe become more self-sufficient.
The site consists of a coal mining operation and a coal-to-liquids plant that will convert about 38,000 tons per day of coal into ultra-clean diesel, jet fuel and naphtha. During construction, more than 4,000 jobs are expected to be created, and 900 people will be required to operate the plant once it becomes operational.
The plant will be located in Big Horn County about 60 miles east of Billings in southern Montana.
The "Many Stars" project is one of 30 coal-gasification plants being developed across the United States that represent a capital investment of more than $59 billion. Not a single project has broken ground on construction.
