Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Australia Pty Limited (New South Wales, Australia) has delayed the $500 million Ararat windfarm power project in Victoria because of uncertainty surrounding regulation of the renewable energy market. RES Australia's head of development, Annette Deveson, said that uncertainty regarding a possible revision in the renewable energy target (RET) was a major factor behind the delay.
RES had planned to select final contracts and equipment suppliers by January 2014, with an intention to commence construction by the second quarter of this year. However, RES has not yet finalized the major contracts, and intends to do so by June 2014.
In 2013, RES appointed Miller Contractors Pty Limited (Victoria, Australia) to do initial site work to maintain the planning commission permits. RES plans to complete the selection of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor and turbine suppliers by June 2014. Following the EPC finalization, construction activities will commence by the third quarter of 2014.
The Ararat windfarm is a 250-megawatt (MW) project that will include as many as 100 turbines, rated at 3 MW each. The windfarm will be built near Ararat Town, in Victoria, and will include construction of a 220-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and an on-site substation. The 20-kilometer (12-mile) transmission line will run through the 132/220-kV Ballarat-to-Horsham line, with a point of connection at Easter Brooks Lane, Elmhurs. RES expects to start the transmission line construction in parallel with the construction of the windfarm.
