Automotive tier supplier, Toyoda Gosei North America Corporation (Troy, Michigan) has started site preparation for a $54 million automotive parts manufacturing plant to be constructed in San Antonio, Texas. Toyoda Gosei North America created a new company in January 2005 called Toyoda Gosei Texas, LLC (TGTX), a wholly-owned subsidiary, to produce plastic components for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Incorporated (TMMTX). The new company is building a plant on the site of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Incorporated's (TMMTX) new assembly plant, which is slated to begin operations in 2006. The new plant will be Toyoda Gosei's first in the region.
James N. Gray Company (Lexington, Kentucky) was awarded the design-build contract for the new plant and will be handling the project through its Austin, Texas office.
In 1999, Toyoda Gosei built a $65 million plant in Lebanon, Kentucky, to supply plastic components to automakers. This new plant is currently operating under the name TG Kentucky LLC, and has approximately 500 employees.
Toyoda Gosei Company Limited (TSE:TGOSF) (Nishikasugai, Aichi, Japan) was founded in Japan in 1949. It currently has facilities in Japan, Belgium, Thailand, Michigan, and Kentucky. Toyoda Gosei is one of 18 suppliers to be located on or near the TMMTX plant in San Antonio. Together, the suppliers are expected to create 1,500 jobs and invest $150 million in facilities and equipment. Toyoda Gosei has nine North American plants, and its 2002 North American sales totaled $538 million. The company has 4,500 employees in North America and 15,000 people worldwide. The company trades on Japan's Nikkei stock exchange. Toyoda Gosei focuses on a variety of services, which include the manufacturing of seatbelts, steering wheels, airbags, power trains, and fuel system parts. Its key automotive customers include Toyota Motor Corporation, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Honda, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, and Nissan.
