Among Bechtel's most high-profile projects are several LNG projects in North America, either under construction or planned. Companies include Cheniere Energy Incorporated (NYSE:LNG) (Houston, Texas), NextDecade Corporation (NASDAQ:NEXT) (Houston), Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California) and Tellurian (NASDAQ:TELL) (Houston). For Cheniere, Bechtel is at work on Train 3 at the company's site in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Train 6 at its Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana. Each train will have a production capacity of 4.5 million metric tons per year, bringing total production capacity of Sabine Pass to 27 million metric tons per year and Corpus Christi to 13.5 million metric tons. Construction on the Sabine Pass train began late last year and is expected to be completed in 2023. Construction on Corpus Christi Train 3 began in mid-2018 and is planned to wrap up in 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Corpus Christi Train 3 and Sabine Pass Train 6. Click here for a list of all North American LNG projects involving Bechtel.
In Pennsylvania, Bechtel is underway with another high-profile project: Royal Dutch Shell's (NYSE:RDS-A) (The Hague, Netherlands) petrochemical complex in Monaca. The facility will include a 1.5 million-metric-ton-per-year ethylene plant that will use ethane feedstock from the Marcellus Shale, as well as high-density polyethylene (HDPE) units and a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit. Construction on the ethylene unit began in early 2017, followed by the derivatives units the following year. The units are expected to be completed later this year. Bechtel is providing EPC along with McCarl's Mechanical Contractors Incorporated (Franklin, Pennsylvania). For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the ethylene unit, gas-phased HDPE unit, slurry-phased HDPE unit, LLDPE unit and cogeneration unit.
Bechtel also is at work on several petrochemical projects in the U.S. that are still in the planning stage. Among these is Formosa Plastics Corporation's (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan) planned complex in Saint James Parish, Louisiana. The facility will include an ethylene unit and propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit. Construction could begin in 2022, taking nearly three years to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the ethylene unit, PDH unit and outside battery limits (OSBL) additions.
Bechtel also is involved in some Power Industry projects, the largest of which is Southern Company's units 3 and 4 additions to the Vogtle nuclear plant in Georgia. Click here for the project report. In Wellsville, Ohio, Bechtel is underway with the South Field Energy Center for Advanced Power AG (Zug, Switzerland). Construction on the combined-cycle power plant began in late 2018 and is expected to wrap up this summer. The facility will use General Electric (NYSE:GE) combustion-turbine generators and steam-turbine generators to generate 1,100 megawatts. The project has an estimated total investment value of $1.1 billion. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Edmonton, Alberta, Bechtel is performing construction management for the addition of a light rail line. The $1.8 billion project includes constructing 17 miles of rail line along with three stations from downtown Edmonton to the western suburbs of the city. Construction began in 2016 and is expected to be completed later this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
