Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Bhilwara Energy Limited (BEL), India's private-sector hydroelectric project developer, has invited bids for a turbine and generator package for its proposed 780-megawatt (MW) Nyamjung Chhu hydroelectric project in Arunachal Pradesh.
The scope of work for this package involves the design, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of six 130-MW Pelton turbine and generator sets.
According to Bhilwara Energy sources, the company is currently evaluating the bids for civil packages, which were floated in January 2012. The project is slated to kick-off in September 2012. BEL has floated a special purpose vehicle (SPV), NJC Hydro Power Limited, for the execution of the project.
The Nyamjung Chhu hydroelectric project has been conceived as a run-of-the-river scheme with peaking pondage to harness the hydropower potential of the Nyamjung Chhu River through the construction of a diversion barrage near Zimithang village, which is in the Tawang district of the northeast state of Arunachal Pradesh.
In October 2006, the state government of Arunachal Pradesh awarded the work for the development of hydropower potential of the Nyamjung Chhu Basin to BEL.
The project will utilize a gross head of about 1,057.4 meters for the generation of 3,430.29 gigawatt-hours of electrical energy annually. The cost of the project was estimated at $1.37 billion at a December 2010 pricing level.
The project involves the construction of an 11.2-meter-high barrage; a 23,450-meter-long, concrete-lined, circular-shaped head race tunnel (HRT), with a 6.2-meter-diameter and a 1,965-meter tail race tunnel (TRT), itself with a 7-meter diameter; and the installation of six 130-MW, vertical-shaft Pelton hydro turbines with a 144.45-megavolt-ampere, synchronous-type generator set in an underground powerhouse. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.
BEL, the flagship company of the LNJ Bhilwara Group, is engaged in the development and operation power assets in India and overseas. The Bhilwara Group was among the first private-sector companies to venture into the Indian power sector when the sector was opened for private participation in 1991.
