LD Celulose SA is a joint venture between Austrian Lenzing and Brazilian Duratex, formed to set up one of the largest soluble cellulose plants in the world. With an investment of R5.2 billion ($958 million), the plant is being built in the Triangulo Mineiro, between the municipalities of Indianopolis and Araguari.
Planned to produce 500 thousand tons of soluble cellulose per year, the special cellulose fibers produced in LD will be used in the textile industry, generating fabrics with innovation, sustainability and high technology.
The grassroot project began with site preparation in 2019; however, due to COVID19, works were stopped but resumed shortly after. The bidding process is still open as the estimated completion date is for May 2022.
