Brunei Shell Petroleum Awards Contract to Decommission Aging Offshore Oil Platforms

February 23, 2025--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) (Panaga Seria, Brunei) has awarded Serikandi Hilong Sdn Bhd--a joint venture between Serikandi Oilfield Services (Brunei) and Hilong Marine Engineering (Hong Kong)--a major contract for the engineering, preparation, removal and disposal (EPRD) of redundant offshore oil structures.

As part of its decommissioning and restoration (D&R) program, Brunei plans to remove over 50 platforms, many of which are more than 50 years old, along with more than 70 pipelines, starting in 2025, utilizing Hilong's construction vessel, Hilong 106.

With some of Brunei's oilfields reaching the end of their lifecycle, the country is now entering a D&R phase, marking a significant shift since first production began in 1959.
