Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Canadian sustainable fuel producer Biomass Secure Power Incorporated (Abbotsford, British Columbia) recently secured a six-month option to lease a site near Port Allen, Louisiana, where it plans to build its first U.S. fuel pellet plant. The company plans to develop the project in four phases over the course of several years.

Phase I would include the installation of three production lines, each capable of producing 340,000 tons of wood pellets each year from both whole trees and chipped fiber.

Construction of the $123 million plant, which is named Biomass Power Louisiana LLC, is expected to begin this summer. The plant is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2014.
