Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--GDF Suez North America (Markham, Ontario) will soon announce the completion and beginning of commercial operations at the Cape Scott Windfarm (Port Hardy, British Columbia), formerly called the Knob Hill Windfarm. Construction on this facility began in the fourth quarter of 2011. Commissioning has begun, and commercial operations will take place in the third quarter of 2013.
Cape Scott will consist of 55 Vestas V100 model wind turbine generator sets. Each unit is expected to produce 1.8 megawatts (MW) of electrical energy to the local grid system. When completed, Phase I will introduce 99 MW of renewable energy.
In the spring of 2014, GDF Suez North America will initiate Phase II of the project, which will introduce an extra 49 MW. The company will install 27 more Vestas V11 wind turbine generator sets at the facility. Completion and commercial operations are expected before the end of 2014. Following both phases, 1,500 homes will be provided with renewable energy.
The project is estimated to be worth $100 million.
