Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--Construction of Carnegie Wave Energy Limited's (CWE) (Perth, Australia) Perth Wave Energy demonstration power project in Garden Island, Western Australia, is well underway, with plant commissioning planned for the end of second-quarter 2014.

Carnegie Wave awarded the major foundation installation contract to Fugro Holdings (Australia) Pty Limited (Perth, Western Australia) and selected Keppel Prince Engineering Pty Limited (Portland, Victoria) to install structural pile foundations. In addition, Total AMS Pty Limited was selected for pipeline installation work (Perth, Western Australia), while ABB Australia Pty Limited (Perth, Australia) was picked to provide delivery of an onshore plant and process control system.

In 2014, Carnegie awarded a major contract to Subsea Riser Products (Surrey, United Kingdom) to provide subsea connectors, articulating bearings and tether assemblies for the project.

The 0.72-megawatt (MW) Perth Wave Energy Project will be Australia's first commercial-scale CETO grid-connected wave project that will supply power and potable, desalinated water to HMAS Sterling (HMAS Sterling), which is Australia's largest naval base center. Carnegie initially proposed a larger capacity project, but the company have no plans to expand the project at this stage. Carnegie will use three CETO-5 units, each with a capacity of 240 kilowatts (kW) to produce the 0.72 MW of electricity.

Carnegie plans to deploy the new and advanced CETO 6 technology as a separate project at Rottnest Island, Western Australia. CETO 6 has twice the capacity of CETO 5 and is expected to produce 0.5 MW per unit. Rottnest project would use CETO 6 units to produce 2.5 MW.

Carnegie has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Rottnest Island Authority to conduct project feasibility studies. The $25 million project construction is scheduled to commence in 2016.
