Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) (Yichang, Hubei), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), recently kicked off the mechanical and electrical erection for China Huaneg Group's (Beijing) 510-megawatt (MW) Zangmu Hydropower Station in Tibet. CEEC announced this news on July 27, 2012.
The Zangmu Hydro Power Station, which is located in the middle reaches of Yaluzangbu River, is the first large-scale hydropower station in Tibet. It has a total estimated investment of about $1.18 billion. The project is mainly comprised of a 116-meter high gravity dam and a river-bed type powerhouse that is furnished with six vertical Francis type hydraulic turbine generating units, which each have 85 MW. The project is also the first hydropower station that is contracted by the CGGC in Tibet. According to the contract, Gezhouba Group Mechanical and Electrical Construction Company Limited (Chengdu, Sichuan), a subsidiary of the CGGC, will be responsible for the erection and commissioning of all six units. The company also will be responsible for the common and auxiliary facilities in the Zangmu hydropower station. Gezhouba Group Southwest Branch, another subsidiary of the CGGC, is responsible for the construction of the right bank dam works. The Engineering Bureau of Sinohydro Corporation 8 (Changsha, Hunan) is responsible for the construction of the open diversion channel, powerhouse civil works and metal works.
In July 2010, the project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner of China. River diversion of the project (which was river closure) was successfully achieved in November 2010. Concrete placement for the right bank dam works kicked off on May 18, 2012.
According to the schedule, the first unit of the project is expected to begin operation in November 2014, and the entire project will be completed by February 2016. Upon completion, the project will be a backbone power station in the Central Tibet Grid. It will supply sufficient power to meet the rapid social and economic development in central Tibet and ensure the safe and reliable operation of the Central Tibet Grid.
