Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The stay ring in the first unit of Huaneng Tibet Power Generation Company Limited's (Chengdu, Sichuan) Zangmu Hydropower Station was erected into its final position on June 25, 2013. The mechanical erection for the project has kicked off, according to an announcement from China Huaneng Group (Beijing) on June 28, 2013.
The stay ring is a benchmark in the erection of the hydraulic turbine generating unit and the first large piece to be erected after the kickoff of construction. In order to ensure the smooth and safe erection of the stay ring, Huaneng Tibet held several coordination, safety and technical clarification meetings prior to the erection. The erection was performed safely and accurately following repeated reviews on site conditions, the lifting scheme and related preparation.
The Zangmu Hydropower Station, located in the middle reaches of Yaluzangbu River in Jiacha County, Shannan prefecture, in the Tibet autonomous region, is the first large-scale hydropower station in Tibet. The project mainly comprises a 116-meter-high gravity dam with a maximum storage capacity of 86.6 million cubic meters under a normal pool level of 3,310 meters above sea level, and a river-bed type powerhouse furnished with six units, each of 85 MW. The total installed capacity is 510 megawatts (MW).
The project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner in China, in July 2010. The river diversion of the project was completed in November 2010. Construction of the project then kicked off at the end of 2010. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project is expected to begin operations in 2014, and all six units of the project will be commissioned in 2016. Upon completion, the project will be the largest hydropower station in Tibet and will be able to produce about 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy to the Tibet grid, which will effectively alleviate the power shortage in Tibet and will promote its social and economic development.
