Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Cheniere LNG Incorporated (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Cheniere Energy Incorporated (Houston, Texas) (AMEX:LNG), received its environmental application approvals from the FERC in mid-April of 2005 and is in the process of working out the final issues of the certificate. The project in question is Cheniere's LNG receiving terminal and pipeline project located in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The $750 million LNG terminal proposal will have an initial natural gas send-out capacity of 2.6 billion cubic feet per day and will be able to store up to 10.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the form of LNG in three above ground 160,000 cubic meter LNG tanks. The terminal will be sited on 612 acres of land and will have two docks, enabling two LNG Carriers ranging up to 250,000 cubic meters in capacity to discharge their cargos at the same time. To export the natural gas to market, Cheniere Pipeline Incorporated (Houston, Texas), another project specific subsidiary of Cheniere Energy, will construct a new $50 million plus, 24- mile long, 42-inch diameter pipeline, originating at the tail end of the terminal and following a northwesterly corridor that will allow for interconnection points with interstate and intrastate natural gas pipeline systems. The pipeline systems of Texas Eastern Transmission, Gulf South Pipeline Company, Gulfterra Intrastate, Kinder Morgan Tejas Pipeline, Crosstex CCNG Marketing, Transco, and Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America are among the potential interconnects.
Cheniere Energy has decided to go out for an open bid for the E+P+C contract and expects to select a contractor at the end of July or August of 2005. Site preparation should begin in late 2005, with full construction activities commencing in early 2006. Completion for the LNG terminal and pipeline project is slated for some time late 2008 or early 2009.
