Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The environment impact assessment (EIA) report prepared by prepared Changjiang Water Resources Protection Institute (Wuhan, Hubei) for China Guodian Corporation's (Beijing) Jinggangshan Hydropower Station was accepted by the Ministry of Environment Protection (MEP) on April 19, 2013, according to an announcement from the MEP on April 22.
The Jinggangshan Hydropower Station, located in the middle reaches of Ganjiang River, in Wanan County of Jian City, in central China's Jiangxi province, is the second project in the four-step cascade development scheme for the middle reaches of the Ganjiang River, the largest tributary of the Yangtze River in the Jiangxi province. The project mainly comprises a concrete dam with a total reservoir storage of 295.8 million cubic meters, under a normal pool level of 67.5 meters above the sea level; a powerhouse furnished with five bulb-type hydraulic turbine generating units, each of 26.6 megawatt (MW); and a 1,000-deadweight tonnage shiplock for navigation purpose. The total construction period for the project will be about 58 months, including four months for construction preparation and 42 months for the construction of the main works. Total investment of the project will be about $520 million.
Early in June 2010, the preliminary feasibility study report for the project passed the examination of an expert panel, which was under the joint organization of Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design General Institute (Beijing) and the Development and Reform Commission of Jiangxi Province. The EIA called for public participation for the second time on April 1, 2013. After 10 days of public input period, the EIA was then submitted to the MEP for final approval.
Presently, the China Guodian Jiangxi Project Preparation Office, a subsidiary of China Guodian Corporation Jiangxi Branch (Nanchang, Jiangxi), is working closely to prepare related support documents required for final approval of the project. According to the schedule, construction of the project is expected to kick off by the end of this year, and the project is expected to begin full operations in 2018.
