China Guodian's First Gas-Fired Power Project Approved in Guangdong

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Guodian Zhongshan Gas Power Generation Company Limited's (GZGPGC) (Zhongshan, Guangdong) first gas-fired power project, Zhongshan Minzhong Gas-Fired Cogeneration Project, received approval from the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province (GDRC) on August 31, 2011, China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) announced on September 5, 2011.

The Guodian Zhongshan Minzhong Gas-Fired Cogeneration Project is in Shazai Industrial Zone in Minzhong Town of Zhongshan City. The project will be furnished with three 185-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle gas turbine generating units, with a flue gas denitration device and associated heat supply pipeline works. The total investment in the project will be about $292 million.

As a project company jointly established by China Guodian Corporation (51%), Zhongshan Torch Development Zone Linhai Industrial Park Development Company Limited (Zhongshan, Guangdong) (25%), Zhongshan Torch Development Zone Development Company Limited (Zhongshan, Guangdong) (8%), Zhongshan Urban Construction Investment Company Limited (Zhongshan, Guangdong) (11%), and Zhongshan Yangming Electric Company Limited (Zhongshan, Guangdong) (5%) in 2005, the GZGPGC is responsible for the construction and future operations of the project. Per-stage preparation on the project began in 2006. The feasibility study report of the project passed the examination in October 2009 and was submitted to the GDRC for approval in May 2010. Following the completion of transportation safety evaluation and energy conservation evaluation in 2011, the project finally received approval at the end of August 2011.

So far, site preparation has been completed and the foundation treatment is in progress. According to the schedule, main works of the project will begin in the first half of 2012 and be completed by the end of 2013.

Upon completion, the project will have a minimum heat (cold) supply capacity of 220 tons per hour to replace 33 small coal-fired boilers scattered in its service area. Compared with conventional coal-fired project, the project could reduce the emission of 3,281 metric tons of sulfur dioxide and 320,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year.
