China Huadian to Invest $1.32 Billion for 500-Megawatt Offshore Windfarm in Fuqing

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Huadian Fujian Power Generation Company (Fuzhou, Fujian) and Huadian New Energy Development Company (Beijing), two subsidiaries of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), jointly signed a letter of intent with the Fuqing municipal government regarding the development of offshore wind power resources in Fuqing, as well as the Special Business Invitation and Promotion Activity for Fuqing on the 12th Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade, which was held on May 17, 2010.

Among the leaders and representatives that attended the signing ceremony were Li Lixin, the vice president of Huadian Fujian, and Huo Guangzhao, the vice president of Huadian New Energy, China Huadian Corporation announced May 19.

The proposed Fuqing Offshore Wind Power Development Project is comprised of the Fuqing Haitai Tideland Windfarm and Fuqing Offshore Windfarm, which have a total planned installation capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) and an expected total investment of $1.32 billion. According to the arrangement, the project will be invested by Huadian New Energy. Huadian Fujian, a regional subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation, will be responsible for the construction and operation of the project. Upon completion, the project could generate about 1.46 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year.

Fuqing is a city with low hydropower resources, but rich wind power resources in East China's Fujian Province. Following comments on accelerating the construction of the west coast economic zone of Taiwan Strait in Fujian province, which were issued by the State Council, Fuqing is planning to create a new renewable energy base by taking advantage of the rich wind energy resources in its coastal region.

As one of the top five national power producers in China, China Huadian Corporation has been engaged in wind power development in Fujian. Just one week ago, Huadian New Energy kicked off the construction of its first 30-MW Niutouwei Wind Power Project in Fuqing.
