CNNC Completes Unit 2 Dome Erection at Fuqing Nuclear Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Erection of the containment dome for Unit 2 of China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) (Beijing) Fuqing Nuclear Power Station was successfully completed on April 16, 2011. This marks that the civil work for Nuclear Island 2 has been completed.

As reported, construction and erection of the nuclear island was contracted to China Nuclear Industry 24th Construction Company Limited (Beijing). Erection of the 150-ton dome, which has a diameter of 37 meters and a height of 11 meters, kicked off in the early morning of April 16. It took 35 minutes to lift the dome and situate it into its final position.

Fuqing Nuclear Power Station is located in Qianxue Village, Sanshan Town, in Fuqing City in the Fujian province. The project has a total planned generating capacity of 6,000 megawatts and will require a total investment of approximately $14 billion. The project will be built in phases and will use second-generation pressurized water reactors that are based on M310 technology. Fuqing Nuclear Power Company Limited (Fuqing, Fujian), a subsidiary of CNNC, is responsible for the construction and future operation of the project.

Construction of Unit 2 kicked off in June 2009. Nuclear island erection began May 2010.

So far, there are three units under construction at the Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant. According to the schedule, Unit 1 of the project will begin operations in November 2013, and Unit 2 will begin operating in September 2014.
