Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Cogent Energy Solutions LLC (Overland Park, Kansas) and development partner Granite Peak Development LLC (Casper, Wyoming) have begun construction of the Casper Logistics Hub (CLH), a crude-by-rail terminal in Casper, Wyoming.
The facility is located on a 700-acre site near the Casper/Natrona County International Airport and will be serviced by BNSF Railway's Class I rail lines. The hub's 24/7 services will include transloading, trucking, erecting, storage, warehouse and switching. CLH has the largest transload facility from Denver, Colorado, to Laurel, Montana.
The 750,000-barrel-capacity terminal transload facility will be managed by Casper Transloading (CTRAN) and is operated by Bighorn Divide & Wyoming Railroad Incorporated. The facility has access to heavy capacity forklifts, heavy haul trucks and 80-ton to 600-ton cranes to handle a variety of commodities.
The double-loop track design will feature 20 loading arms per loop and will enable the facility to simultaneously load two unit trains of 118 tank cars with different crude grades. In addition, the 12 truck bays will allow for expedited truck unloading. The facility will be an open, third-party terminal focused on providing the highest level of service to shippers. The terminal also will be connected to Spectra Energy's (NYSE:SE) Express Pipeline.
Construction costs are in the $60 million range, and construction is expected to be completed by the spring of 2014.
