Community Fuels Shooting for Year-End Start-up on Port of Stockton Biodiesel Plant

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held American Biodiesel Incorporated (Encinitas, California) doing business as Community Fuels LLC (Stockton, California) is installing pieces of production equipment in anticipation of a year-end start-up on a new biodiesel plant at the Port of Stockton in Stockton, California.

The plant’s construction started late first quarter of 2007, and the company acted as its own general contractor, procuring equipment and selecting various construction subcontractors to build buildings and install equipment. American Biodiesel also provided its own biodiesel process technology.

The estimated $10 million plant will initially process imported soybean oil into the fuel, and the company is looking to diversify the feedstock mix to include locally produced oil crops and other feedstock. The plant is expected to produce about 7.5 million gallons of fuel in its first year of production; however, the plant has been designed to accommodate additional phases of construction that could boost capacities up to 40 million gallons annually.

Once the plant goes into operation, Community Fuels will be the seventh biodiesel plant operating in California. Other operational plants in the state are in Coachella, Bakersfield, Ukiah, Richmond, Gonzales and San Jose.

Crimson Renewable Energy also recently started construction on a 30 million-gallon-per-year plant in Bakersfield. Three more biodiesel plants are to be built in Fresno, West Sacramento and Pacifica.
