Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Development and Reform Commission of Fujian Province announced on February 18, 2008, that construction has begun on Phase I of the Ningde nuclear power station. The station is located on the coast of the East China Sea in Fuding City. The project has been listed in the "National Middle and Long Term Development Plan for Nuclear Power (2005-20)," and is also the first nuclear power station in China built on an island.
The station has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) units to be built in three phases. Two 1,000 MW nuclear power units with advanced pressurized water reactors will be in Phase I. The localization rate of these units will be more than 70%.
The $3.83 billion project will be the largest energy investment in Fujian's history. It will be invested by Fujian Ningde Nuclear Power Company Limited, a company jointly invested by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen); Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing); and Fujian Coal Industry (Group) Company Limited (Fuzhou, China). The total investment of the first four units in Phase I and II will be more than $7.1 billion. The first unit is scheduled to go into commercial operation in 2012, and the second unit is scheduled to go into commercial operation in 2013. The third and the forth units will be go into commercial operation in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
