Contractor Selected for Combustion Turbine Addition at Associated Electric's Essex Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Zachry Construction Corporation (San Antonio, Texas) has been awarded a contract to construct a 107-megawatt (MW) combustion turbine addition at the Associated Electric Cooperative's (Springfield, Missouri) Essex Power Station in Essex, Missouri.

The gas-fired, simple-cycle peaking power plant is located in Stoddard County and has an existing 121-MW Siemens Westinghouse combustion turbine, which became operational in 1999. The facility was constructed to meet the area's "peaking" demand to provide electricity on days of heavy electricity use.

Construction for the unit addition is scheduled to start in June, with completion expected in December. It is also a Siemens Westinghouse combustion turbine.
