CRUDE OIL
Crude Falls on High U.S. Gasoline Supplies - Despite a drawdown of 1.9 million barrels in U.S. crude oil stocks last week, U.S. crude was down as much as 3% because of a 1.4 million-barrel increase in U.S. gasoline stocks, which was much higher than most analysts' expectations.
POWER
Combined-Cycle, Waste-to-Energy Projects Top the List for U.S. Southeast's $7 Billion in Fourth-Quarter Kickoffs - The U.S. Southeast region is looking at an uptick in total spending on projects expected to begin construction in fourth-quarter 2015, with Industrial Info's project database indicating about $7.03 billion in projected kickoffs. Biomass/waste-to-energy and combined-cycle plants are driving much of the growth.
Power Prices in California Surge, Driven by High Temperatures, Fires and Power Plant Outages - Record temperatures pushed up electric load and day-ahead power prices in California on September 8-11. Power market fundamentals also were affected by several large fires in the state, as well as a large number of electric generators in the region, which were idled either for planned or unplanned outages. IIR Energy's PowerCast Live showed a total of 25,335 megawatts (MW) of power plants in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) were offline between September 1 and September 17. Some of these outages were planned, but others were unplanned.
PRODUCTION
Imperial Projects Add 120,000 BBL/d of Crude Production This Year - Imperial Oil Limited's (Calgary, Alberta) 90,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) expansion of its Kearl oil sands project joins its 30,000-BBL/d Nabiye project, completed earlier this year, in boosting the company's oil production. Nabiye will hit 40,000-BBL/d by the end of the year.
FINANCIAL
Canada Dollar Falls to 11-Year Low - The Canadian dollar fell to $1.3357 per U.S. dollar on Wednesday, its lowest level since June 2004.
