Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dakota Plains Holdings Incorporated's (Wayzata, Minnesota) Pioneer Terminal in New Town, North Dakota, expects its first oil in late October. The terminal will transload crude oil from the Bakken formation to refiners on the West Coast.
The expansion project includes an additional 16,600 feet of double-loop track that can handle two 120-unit trains; a new 10-car, high-speed loading building; and two additional 90,000-barrel crude oil storage tanks. The terminal is connected to five different pipeline interconnects.
Some 80,000 barrels of crude oil--nearly a threefold increase in capacity--will be allowed due to the expansion.
Engineers and contractors for the estimated $50 million project include Brown Tank LLC (Saint Paul, Minnesota), MKEC Engineering (Wichita, Kansas), Pinnacle Engineering (Minneapolis, Minnesota), VEIT (Bismarck, North Dakota) and the inspection and validation team of Strobel Starostka Transfer (Mustang, Oklahoma).
The project is about 75% complete, and agreements are in place to receive oil. The entire project is expected to be operating at full capacity by December of this year.
