Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing of the supply contract for steam generators and pressure vessels the Taohuajiang nuclear power project was held in Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan province, on September 17. Huan Chen, Vice President of Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited (SHA: 600875) (DEC) (Chengdu); Hong Wang, General Manager of Dongfang (Guangzhou) Heavy Machinery Company Limited (DFHM) (Guangzhou, Guangdong); and Yanguo Zheng, General Manager of Hunan Taohuajiang Nuclear Power Company Limited (HTNPC) (Yiyang, Hunan), signed the contract on behalf of the parties.
"The signing of the contract means Dongfang Electric has officially become a main equipment supplier for AP1000-based nuclear power stations," said Dongfang Electric, the parent company of DEC Limited, in a September 21 announcement.
According to plans, the project will have four AP1000 nuclear power reactors of 1,250-megawatts (MW), allowing for a total installed capacity of 5,000 MW. The first unit is scheduled to begin construction officially in September 2010, beginning operation in 2015.
The Taohuajiang nuclear power project is located in Zhanxi town of Taojiang County, Yiyang city in Central China's Hunan province. The project is to be built and operated by HTNPC, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) (Beijing), with investments from China Resources Power Engineering Service Company Limited (Shenzhen, Guangdong), China Changjiang Three Gorges Project Corporation (Yichang, Hubei) and Hunan Xiangtou Holdings Group Company Limited (Changsha, Hunan). Initial preparation of the project began May 2006. On July 25, 2006, the provincial government of Hunan signed the cooperation framework agreement with CNNC, and the general contract and service framework agreement on the second day. In February 2008, the project received official approval from the National Development and Reform Commission to begin construction.
