Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for Huaneng Power International Incorporated's (SHA:600011) (Beijing) 600-megawatt (MW) Mianchi combined heat and power (CHP) project received approval from China's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) on December 18, 2010, according to a recent announcement from the ministry.
The power plant, located in the west of Duanjiawa village in Mianchi County, in Central China's Henan province, is about three kilometers from Mianchi downtown and nine kilometers from Yima downtown. Huaneng Power International Henan Branch (Zhengzhou, Henan) is responsible for the pre-stage preparation of the project.
According to the announcement made by the MEP, the project will be furnished with two 300-MW supercritical pumping condensing power-generating units and two supercritical pulverized coal fired boilers. The project will have flue gas desulfurization, electrostatic and bag-type dust removers, low-nitrogen combustion technology and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for denitration. The project will be the only heat source within the concentrated heat supply area of Mianchi and Yima.
Upon completion, the project will replace 126 small coal-fired boilers scattered throughout the area to provide heat. Meanwhile, the project will replace a 130-ton-per-hour temporary heat supply boiler at the Mianchi No.1 Power Plant and two 6-MW coal-fired units at the Mianchi No.2 Power Plant. The project will require a total investment of about $470 million, including $45 million for environment protection, accounting for 9.8% of the total investment.
According to the schedule, construction on the project will kick off in April 2011, and the plant will begin operations in 2013.
