Emerald Biofuels Plans Renewable Diesel Refinery in Louisiana

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Emerald Biofuels LLC (Chicago, Illinois) plans to construct a renewable diesel refinery in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Emerald is investing $80 million in the venture to produce 85 million gallons of green diesel annually from multiple natural oils and animal fats feedstocks.

The refinery will be constructed on an existing, 1,500-acre Dow Chemical (NYSE:DOW) plant that will provide support services and utilities to the project. This site also has ship, barge, rail and truck access.

Emerald will use Honeywell's UOP/Enil EcoFining Process Technology. It is a form of catalytic hydroprocessing developed with Italian refiner Eni SpA (NYSE:E) to produce Honeywell's Green Diesel Fuel. According to Honeywell, the fuel can be used in vehicles and transported in existing pipelines without being blended with standard fuels.

Emerald expects to close financing later this year, and engineering and construction will commence shortly thereafter.
