Enel, Ansaldo Conduct Hot Gas Path Inspection at 748-Megawatt Archimede Power Plant in Sicily

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Europe (Galway, Ireland)--Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) (Rome, Italy) with Ansaldo Energia (Genoa, Italy) is under way with major maintenance outages at the 748-megawatt (MW) Archimede combined-cycle power plant, near the community of Priolo Gargallo in Sicily.

The power plant, which began commercial operations in 2002, is equipped with two 253-MW SGT5-4000F V94.3A Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) combustion turbines and Ansaldo Caldaie SpA (Milan, Italy) heat-recovery steam generators that work jointly with two 121-MW Franco Tosi (Legnano, Italy) condensing steam turbines.

A 42-day hot gas path inspection began on Combined-Cycle Block 2 at the end of August, and it is expected that this unit's outage will continue until October 14. The Block 1 scheduled inspection after 24,000 equivalent operating hours is scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.

Enel owns and operates three other thermal power plants in this region: the 210-MW Augusta facility, the 1,392-MW Termini Imerese Centrale Ettore Majorana plant, and the 140-MW Porto Empedocle station.
