Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Brazilian Enel Brasil Participacoes Ltda (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) awarded a contract to Cortez Engenharia (Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil) to build the Fonte dos Ventos windfarm complex in Tacaratu, in the state of Pernambuco.
When operational, the windfarm complex will have an installed capacity of 79.9 megawatts (MW). It will consist of four windfarms: Parque Eólico Tacaicó I (18.8 MW), Pedra do Gerônimo (30.55 MW) and Pau Ferro (30.55 MW), which began construction in May 2013, and Tacaicó II (11.75 MW), which is to participate in the Energy Auction A-3, which will be before the end of this year.
With an investment of approximately $167 million, the complex will generate 79.9 MW and will provide energy to the local grid. The complex will be equipped with 39 wind turbines of 2.35 MW each, one provided by Siemens AG (NYSE:SI).
According to company officials, civil works will commence in March 2014 and will last about nine months.
Enel Brasil Participacoes Ltda, a subsidiary of Enel SpA (Roma, Italia), has many Eolic projects under development in different states in Brazil. The planned projects are Vista (29.9 MW) and Esperança (29.9 MW); the engineered projects are EOL Modelo I (28.8 MW), EOL Modelo II (24 MW) and Tacaico II (11.75 MW); and those under construction and Pau Ferro (30.55 MW), Pedra do Geronimo (30.55 MW), EOL Cristal (30 MW), EOL Primavera (30 MW), EOL Sao Judas (30 MW), EOL Joana (28.20 MW) and EOL Emiliana (28.20 MW). Those projects will be located in the Brazilian states of Bahia (206.2 MW), Pernambuco (91.65 MW) and Rio Grande do Norte (52.8 MW).
