Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). A Greenville, Mississippi pharmacist may be the man to bring the state of Mississippi its first fuel ethanol plant. Wynn Sanders, President of EOH Energy, a start-up cooperative owned company, has been working for over a year on permitting issues and raising funds to build an ethanol plant in Greenville, Mississippi.
Plans are to construct a 40 million gallon per year ethanol plant to provide a fuel additive that will replace MTBE as an oxygenate. The plant will also chew up some 15 million bushels per year of locally grown corn and increase cooperative member price per bushel prices and add value to their crops.
EOH Energy was working with ethanol plant constructor Lurgi PSI (Memphis, Tennessee), but has severed their relationship with the firm. The company is now utilizing the services of leading plant ethanol builder Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota) to provide technology and design for the $58 million project.
Currently, the company waiting for the air emission permit to be approved, and once that happens sometime towards the end of the year, construction on the plant could begin in the early spring of 2004.
Completion of the project is expected some 14 to 16 months after initial construction begins.
The site selected, located in Washington County near land bordering Entergy's Gerald Andrus power plant, is ideal because of rail access and accessibility to the Greenville Port Terminal. The project is also being touted as the third largest capital expenditure in the history of Washington County.
Three other ethanol plants are developing in Mississippi. Oddly enough, a dentist in Winona formed Mississippi Ethanol LLC and is planning a 1 million gallon per year plant utilizing wood waste. Another firm out of Colorado, Southern Ethanol Company plans to construct a 30 million gallon per year plant and Mississippi Biofules is also looking into a 30 million gallon per year plant.
