EPC Contract of First Nuclear Power Project in Central China's Hubei Province Awarded

Hubei Nuclear Power Company Limited recently awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for Phase I of the Dafan Nuclear Power Project in Wuhan.

Released Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Hubei Nuclear Power Company Limited (HNPC) (Wuhan, Hubei), a 60:40 joint venture of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen, Guangdong) and Hubei Energy Group Company Limited (Wuhan, Hubei), respectively, recently awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Conventional Island, as well as Balance of Plant, in Phase I of the Dafan Nuclear Power Project in Wuhan.

Dafan Nuclear Power Project, which is in Dafan Town, Tongshan County, Xianning City, is the first nuclear power project in Central China's Hubei province. The project has a total planned capacity of four sets of 1,000-megawatt (MW) units, including two 1,250-MW, AP1000-based nuclear power units to be built in Phase I.

As the first inland nuclear power project developed by CGNPC, the first nuclear power project in Hubei Province and the first nuclear power project based on AP1000 passive-type pressurized water reactors, the project has drawn attention from the nuclear power sector in China and abroad.

According to the contract, China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen), together with China Nuclear Power Design Company Limited (Shenzhen), will be responsible for the EPC and related project support and services for the Conventional Island and BOP in Phase I of Dafan Nuclear Power Project.

Construction preparation for the project kicked off in 2009. Work on the transportation road and port for heavy pieces have begun. A total of 10.7 million cubic meters of civil works have been completed; procurement schemes for major equipment have been worked out.

Early in August 2009, HNPC had awarded the EPC contract of the Nuclear Island to a consortium formed by five subsidiaries of the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) (Beijing), namely the State Nuclear Power Engineering Company (SNPEC) (Beijing), Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI) (Shanghai), State Nuclear Power Design & Research Institute (SNPDRI) (Beijing), State Nuclear Power Automation System Engineering Company (SNPAS) (Shanghai) and State Nuclear Power Service Company Limited (SNPSC) (Shanghai).
