First Line of Wuhu Conch 24,000-Ton-per-Day, Phase III Cement Clinker Expansion Ignited

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The first line (Line A) of Wuhu Conch Cement Company Limited's (Wuhu, Anhui) 24,000-ton-per-day, Phase III cement clinker expansion project was ignited on December 18, 2011. So far, Wuhu Conch's cement clinker production capacity has reached 32,000 tons per day, Anhui Conch Cement Company Limited (SHA:600585) (Wuhu, Anhui) recently announced.

Wuhu Conch Cement is in Daichong Village, Fanyang Town, Fanchang County, in Central China's Anhui province. The company is one of four 10 million-metric-ton (MMT) cement clinker manufacturing bases that are being planned by Anhui Conch Cement along the Changjiang River. Prior to the construction of the Phase III expansion, the company already has four 5,000-ton-per-day cement clinker manufacturing lines in operation, with an annual cement clinker production capacity of 4 MMT, cement production capacity of 3.2 MMT, and two 18-megawatt (MW) waste heat-recovery generating units in operation.

Phase III will be furnished with two 12,000-ton-per-day cement clinker manufacturing lines, with a 36-MW waste heat-recovery power plant. Total investment in the project will be about $460 million. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Phase III expansion was held in February 2009. Construction on the first line began in March 2010. Construction of the line was completed as scheduled on December 10, 2011. Testing of the burner of the kiln head then began and was completed on December 12. On December 15, the testing of the two raw material loaders for the production line was completed. On December 18, the production line was ignited.

Presently, the project owner is working with all parties involved for the construction and commissioning of the second line. It's expected that the whole project will begin operation in the first quarter of 2012. Upon completion, Wuhu Conch Cement will be the largest single cement clinker plant in the world.
