Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Pty Limited (Sydney, Australia) is beginning construction on the 20-megawatt (MW) Royalla Solar Farm, which is expected to become one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) solar farms in Canberra, Australia. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project was awarded to Acciona Energy Oceania Pty Limited (Melbourne, Australia). Construction of the solar farm should be completed by August 2014.
Construction activities will be a source of economic activity for the local economy by creating roughly 100 construction-related jobs and driving spending with local businesses. The Royalla project represents the largest utility-scale solar project in Australia, and it was financed by Australia & New Zealand Bank (ANZ) and National Australia Bank (NAB).
"ANZ is very pleased to support our global clients, including FRV, in Australia's first project financing of a utility-scale solar farm," said David Byrne, ANZ's global head of Infrastructure and Utilities.
"NAB is proud to be Australia's leading project financier of renewable energy projects," said Phillip Mak, the head of Energy & Utilities. "We are delighted to be a mandated lead arranger for the financing of the Royalla Solar Farm, the first utility-scale solar project in Australia to be project-financed."
In September 2013, Acciona signed a supply contract with Mecasolar (Navarra, Spain), a solar PV structure-manufacturing company, to supply the two-post fixed structure and anchoring systems. FRV will feature 83,000 photovoltaic panels and will be built on a 50-hectare site in Canberra, Australia. Early site works on site commenced in September 2013, and major construction work, along with PV panel's installation, will take place during the first and second quarters in 2014.
The project includes the construction of an 11-kilovolt transmission line that will connect to the Theodore Substation, which is approximately 4.5 kilometres from the solar farm.
