Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The ceremony celebrating the laying of the foundation of Phase I of the Ningde Nuclear Power Station project was held in Ningde, in eastern China's Fujian province on August 27. This marks that the foundation work of the project has officially turned to the site-erection stage from pre-stage preparation and workshop prefabrication.
This is an important milestone achieved in the construction of the Ningde Nuclear Power Station. The foundation is a key part of a nuclear power station. "As an intermediate step in the construction of a nuclear power station, the foundation has an outstanding position with very important meaning in it," said Yinong Li, General Manager of project owner Fujian Ningde Nuclear Power Company Limited (Fuding, Fujian), at the ceremony.
Ningde Nuclear Power Station, located on the coast of the East China Sea in the city of Fuding, has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) units that will be built in two phases. Four 1,000-MW nuclear power units with improved advanced pressurized water reactors of the second generation will be built in Phase I. The project is jointly invested by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen, China), Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing) and Fujian Coal Industry (Group) Company Limited (Fuzhou, China). Total investment in Phase I will be about $7.2 billion.
Construction of the Phase I project officially started on February 18, 2008. China Nuclear Industry 23rd Construction Corporation (Beijing), a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the foundation work of the project. According to the schedule, the first unit is expected to begin commercial operation in 2012, and the remaining three units will begin operation in 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively.
