Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--French renewable energy developer Site A Watts SARL (Bretagne, France) is set to commission an 8.2-megawatt (MW) community-funded windfarm at Beganne commune in the Brittany region in northwest France. The windfarm will be the first citizen-invested power station once it is commissioned in mid 2014.
Due to be built with an investment of 16.5 million, the Beganne windfarm was initiated in 2004 by the residents of the Beganne commune. Site A Watts SARL started the project development in 2009.
Senvion France SAS, a subsidiary of India's largest wind turbine manufacturer, Suzlon Energy Limited (BSE: 532667) (Pune, Maharashtra), has supplied four MM92 wind turbine generator (WTG) sets of 2.05 MW each for the windfarm. Site A Watts has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Electricite de France S A (EDF) (EPA: EDF) (Paris) for the sale of power from the plant for a period of 15 years from the date of commencement of power generation. Site A Watts released an expression of interest (EoI) for selection of equipment supplier for the project, post acquiring permits, in 2012.
According to Senvion, installation of all the four wind turbines will be completed by end of April 2014. The windfarm is likely to start feeding electricity to France's national grid by June 2014. Once commissioned, the wind power station will produce 20 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year, which could supply power to more than 8,000 households in the region and avoid emission of 15,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
Site A Watts SARL was created in 2007 to finance and develop windfarms, especially the citizen funded projects. Currently, the company has two more citizen funded projects in pipeline, which are due to developed in western France. Site A Watts SARL also plans to set a 50-MW onshore facility in the country by 2016.
