GD Power's 700-Megawatt Wuzhong Coal-Fired Cogeneration Project Receives Approval from NDRC

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--GD Power Wuzhong Thermal Power Company Limited's (Wuzhong, Ningxia) 700-megawatt (MW) Wuzhong grassroot coal-fired cogeneration project received approval from China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on April 28. This marks that the project has completed all of the approval procedures for the official kick-off of construction, according to China Guodian Corporation (Beijing).

The newly approved Wuzhong coal-fired cogeneration project is a new power source project invested by GD Power Development Company Limited (SHA:600795) (Beijing), the listed flagship of China Guodian Corporation, and also one of the power source construction projects listed in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region.

Early in 2008, China Guodian Corporation had decided to build a new coal-fired power source project in Wuzhong City. In July 2009, GD Power Wuzhong Thermal Power was officially established in Jinzhi town of Wuzhong city. On August 19, 2010, GD Power received consent from the NDRC to kick off pre-stage preparation for the project.

According to the approval, the project will be furnished with two 350-MW coal-fired supercritical units for combined heat and power supply for residents and industrial users in Wuzhong City. The project will help replace smaller, inefficient units with newer, more efficient ones. As reported, Wuzhong currently has about 8 million square meters of area in concentrated heating. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply 550 tons per hour of steam or heating to a total area of 12 million square meters, and replace all of the existing small coal-fired boilers scattered throughout Wuzhong City.

Presently, the project owner is working closely with Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xian, Shaanxi), the project designer, and other parties involved to speed up the construction of the project. According to the schedule, both units of the project will be commissioned in 2013.
