Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (GEDI) (Guangzhou, Guangdong), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), won the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) general contract for Datang International Fuzhou Power Generation Company Limited's (Fuzhou, Jiangxi) 2,000-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Fuzhou Power Plant project on May 15, 2013. This is the first 1,000-MW, coal-fired project to be built by one of the top five power producers of China in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode, which means that GEDI has begun a new stage in the general contracting business, according to an announcement from the CEEC on May 21.
The Datang International Fuzhou Power Plant, located in Fuzhou City in Central China's Jiangxi province, is fully invested by Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing) (SH.601991), the listed flagship of China Datang Corporation (Beijing). The power plant will be furnished with two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired steam turbine generators, together with flue gas desulfurization, electrostatic dust remover, flue gas denitration devices and other common and support facilities, with a total investment of about $1.2 billion in the initial stage.
General contracting for 1,000-MW, coal-fired units is of a high-end market in the general contracting business in China. Competition over the project is strong, and several leading designers and construction contractors took part in the bidding. GEDI finally won the project with the best performance.
As reported, the main turbine, generator and boiler equipment required for the project had been awarded to Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan). According to the schedule, construction of the project will kick off shortly, and both units of the project will begin operations in 2015. Upon completion, the project will meet the increasing power demand from the Jiangxi grid and will be able to serve as a powerful support to local economic development in Jiangxi.
