General Mills Pizza Plant Undergoes $70 Million Expansion

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--General Mills Incorporated (NYSE:GIS) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) has undertaken a $72 million expansion of a company-owned pizza plant in Wellston, Ohio.

The company is constructing a 28,000-square-foot warehouse and adding 6,000 square feet of production area to the facility, which already has more than 17 acres under roof. Construction is under way, and the process area equipment installation will commence in the first quarter of 2010. The expansion is scheduled to be complete late next summer.

The construction is being carried out with PCL Construction Services (Burnsville, Minnesota) as the general contractor, along with a host of local and regional suppliers and subcontractors.

The Wellston facility produces pizzas, pizza rolls and pancakes, and is the largest pizza plant in the world, with a daily output of more than 1.2 million pizzas and 17 million pizza rolls.

Ohio is home to more than 200 major food processing plants and distribution centers.
