Georgia Plans for More Than $2 Billion in Fourth-Quarter Project Completions
Georgia is on track to complete industrial projects valued at $2.16 billion from October through December this year.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Georgia is on track to complete industrial projects valued at $2.16 billion from October through December this year. In terms of project value, leading the way in the Peach State is the Power Industry, with $650 million in planned project completions, followed closely by the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with $633 million in planned completions.

Among the largest Power Industry projects to be completed are three photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants, with a combined total investment value (TIV) of $585 million. Southern Company subsidiary (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia) Southern Power's 146-megawatt (MW) Sandhills PV solar plant has an estimated TIV of $250 million. Southern Power also is constructing a 103-MW PV solar plant near Butler. Both projects began construction late last year and are expected to be wrapped up in this quarter. The projects are using thin-film photovoltaic modules from First Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona), which is also acting as engineering, procurement and construction contractor on both projects.
A grassroot distribution center in Atlanta tops the list of Industrial Manufacturing projects to be completed in the quarter. Majestic Realty Company (Atlanta, Georgia) is developing a 2.8 million-square-foot distribution center with supporting equipment to support regional operations. Commerce Construction Company LP (Atlanta) is acting as general contractor on the project, which began construction in the third quarter of 2015 and is expected to be completed early this quarter.
Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) is constructing an $82 million fulfillment center in Braselton, Georgia. The project is being constructed at a 613,440-square-foot warehouse shell and began this summer. Also falling under the auspices of the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, CSX Corporation (NASDAQ:CSX) (Jacksonville, Florida) is planning to complete a year-long, state-wide upgrade and rehabilitation program to its freight rail network in Georgia. The approximately $92 million project includes upgrades and rehabilitation to the company's 2,600-mile freight rail system as well as rail yards, intermodal terminals and more.
