Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--German Pellets GmbH's (Wismar, Germany) Louisiana subsidiary is gearing up for full production at the company's' second U.S. wood fuel pellet manufacturing plant, located in Urania, Louisiana.
German Pellets of Louisiana LLC (Urania) expects the wood fuel pellet mill to be running at full capacity by the end of July. The plant is located on the site of the former Georgia-Pacific (Atlanta, Georgia) wood panel mill, which closed in 2002. The new mill is expected to employ 80 to 100 people and will offer truck driver positions.
The estimated $350 million facility was built by Southern Industrial Contractors (Rayville, Louisiana).
The mill will have a production capacity of 1.1 million tons per year. The pellets will be shipped to Port Arthur, Texas, and loaded on vessels at a rate of 45,000 tons per shipment, where they will go to Germany, the U.K. and other European posts.
The company's other U.S. mill is located in Woodville, Texas. The Woodville plant completed an expansion in April 2014.
To transport fuel pellets from the Urania and Woodville mills to Europe, German Pellets will utilize the deepwater harbor at the port of Port Arthur, which has five storage silos with a storage capacity of 75,000 tons, with plans to add two more silos.
The company also plans to build a $150 million, 600,000 ton-per-year fuel pellet mill in Bor, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.
